The case involved a collision between the plaintiff who was on a moped and a Range Rover on Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills. Trial included over 40 witnesses, including more than 30 expert witnesses who testified about traumatic brain injury, orthopedic injuries, economic losses and the life long consequences of traumatic brain injury. The jury deliberated for 4 days and returned a verdict in the amount of $21,657,000. The insurance companies who hired the defense lawyers in the case refused to settle on behalf of the negligent driver who took responsibility and accepted fault. They used the defendant driver in raising frivolous defenses and lost. Their failure to accept a fair offer of settlement more than 4 years ago will now result in the insurance companies AAA and RLI, who dug in and refused to provide a reasonable settlement, to pay 10% interest on the entire amount of the verdict over the last 4 years. The final judgment will exceed Thirty Million Dollars.
