Attorney Matthew Amarin
Mr. Amarin is a rising star in the Chicago legal community. He practices in Chicago because he considers it to be his city. He grew up in the city and attended public school in the Chicago Public Schools system. Mr. Amarin was born in Atlanta, GA, but spent all of his summers and any free time in Chicago. At ten years old he and his family made a permanent move to Chicago. He attended and graduated Von Steuben high school in the city’s north side, where he was enrolled in the Honor’s program and played baseball and softball.
Mr. Amarin joined the Faraj Law firm in 2015 to expand the breadth of his legal practice. Before joining the Faraj Firm Mr. Amarin’s primary area of practice was criminal defense in state and federal court in the Chicagoland area. Mr. Amarin now focuses on criminal defense and injury law.
Mr. Amarin earned a Bachelor’s degree in biology. Following college Mr. Amarin attended law school in Michigan where he earned his JD. He passed the Illinois Bar exam in November 2012, on his first attempt. While in law school Mr. Amarin was a student-attorney at the Washtenaw County Public Defender’s Office. That experience lead to a desire to become a trial attorney and to focus on criminal defense. Mr. Amarin excelled academically during law school, earning his way to the Dean’s list several times.
Mr. Amarin considers himself a son of the city of Chicago. He possesses a devotion to give back to the community. Soon after earning his license to practice in Illinois, Mr. Amarin began to volunteer his time for the benefit of the Chicago community. He helps judge national moot court competitions held at the Federal Dirksen Building. He is currently the co-chairman of the criminal division of the Chicago Bar Association’s Young Lawyer’s Section. He volunteers at the Cabrini Green Legal Aid, where he assists indigent individuals draft and file their petitions to expunge their criminal records. He also volunteered to represent indigent individuals who are in danger of losing their driving privileges due to DUI allegations.
Mr. Amarin is an avid sports fan and enjoys giving back to the community. He recently coached a teenage baseball team at Rogers Park. He also coached 16” softball at Von Steuben, his former high school. Mr. Amarin also enjoys participating in a Chicago past time, 16” softball, during his free time. Last year his team qualified and finished in the top half in the national tournament in Carol Stream, IL. Mr. Amarin is a first-generation Jordanian-American and is conversational in Arabic.
